Preparing to depart

Well, we are already going to depart one day behind schedule, but are determined to be on the train en-route to the beginning of our journey tomorrow morning.  After a hectic couple of weeks packing up our house, finalizing preparations and finishing up at work, it will be nice to get out into the bush for a while.

The basic plan-of-attack for our trip is to take the train south of Sydney's crazy traffic and start cycling form Mittagong.  The first few days we'll try to take it a bit easy to get into the groove of cycling and camping, but our overall average for the trip should be about 75km/day.  Considering how heavy our bikes are, I think if we can do this it will be quite an accomplishment.  Our route will cover over 5100km of some of the best, and also possible worst, scenery the southern half of Australia has to offer.  As a back-up plan, if we find we're running behind schedule (not likely as we have no real schedule) we have planned a few shorter routes that will also take us to Perth, but by-pass some of the scenery.

Stay tuned for map updates that should start tomorrow, and hopefully some beautiful photos in the near future!
